Hometown: San Geronimo Shayne Tolchin was born
in the San Francisco Bay Area in a little town called
San Geronimo in 1977. Shayne comes from a musical
family, both his mother and father are piano teachers
so it's no wonder he chose to be a musician, and
pianist for that matter. As a boy Shayne had some
early experience performing in school talent shows
singing and playing piano. In 1998 he had his first
experience in a professional recording studio as
a back-up singer on an album by Harmony Grisman.
Shayne and Coot started a hip-hop R&B group
called The Next Dope Generation that received a
lot of attention from their peers at school. At
the end of grade school and through high school
Shayne got into acting. He performed in his school
play and other community plays, mostly musicals.
He attended A.C.T. (American Conservatory Theater)
In San Francisco for a few years and performed at
the end of each semester. Shayne then went on and
signed with a talent agent in San Francisco called
Actors Exchange, and landed some T.V. commercials
in '91 and '92. After high school, Shayne started
losing interest in acting and began to get back
into music. Coot was looking into college at Chico
State and convinced Shayne that they should both
go to Chico State to study Music and Recording Arts.
That's where Shayne met the original members of
Mystic Roots, guitarist and bass players Jason Flathers
and Joaquin Guerrero. Over the next few years, Shayne
explored his songwriting abilities and wrote many
of the original tunes that Mystic Roots still plays
today. He graduated Chico State in 2000 with a B.A.
in Music/Recording Arts and moved back to the Bay
Area. He's been working as a recording engineer
for the last few years at a few different studios
in the Bay Area. Hobbies: Basketball, working out,
listening to music, movies. Influences: Stevie Wonder,
Sting, Brian McKnight, Mint Condition, Bobby McFerrin,
Maria Carey, Whitney Houston, Bob Marley, Luciano.
Birthday: March 28, 1977. Sign: Aries
